The indigenous people of Mexico believed that the most sacred journey was from up high to down low. Meaning, mountain tops, and caves were sacred spaces. On this and consecutive trips, I had the honor of making this pilgrimage to the heights of the pyramids, to the depths of the caves that served as places for sacrificial offerings. My trips were always filled with excitement and an expanded sense of belonging and wonderment for all that existed before colonization and an endearing yearning for the homeliness of Mexico City now.
From Teotihuacan Zona Arqueologica, Piramide del sol to the nightlife of Zona Rosa, here is a taste of it all.
The giraffe pictured here, Juan Miguel, lives in an animal reserve along with dozens of other species. The entrance fee was packaged with the Teotihuacan tour, and while not originally planned, a delight.
